The North of 60 Project is one that is near and dear to the hearts of the Canadian North team.
The Project is run by volunteers from the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Western Region, who devote their time and energy to helping people living in communities spread across the Arctic. Delivery of food, household items, including bedding and furniture, is a vital service and we are very proud to be involved.
The Arctic region can be characterized by the warmth of its people, but it is also vulnerable to the effects of increasing climate change threats and the isolation of the communities. Many of the communities who benefit from the North of 60 Project are fly-in only and therefore aren’t connected by roads or railways. Air transport is an essential service and social lifeline. Knowing this, the North of 60 Project prioritizes not only the delivery of goods, but the volunteers also make community visits to ensure the unique needs of community members are being understood on an individual level. Only items that are requested are delivered and the service is only provided for as long as it’s wanted by those it serves. That’s where Canadian North comes in.
As an airline like no other, we aim to make the lives better for the people in the communities we serve. By flying with Canadian North, North of 60 volunteers can meet with community members face-to-face, including Elders and those needing social or financial support, to bring personalized care and sense of closeness. The volunteers know that a personal rapport ensures community needs are met in a way that can’t be replaced. One visit, one contact, can make a difference in reducing the negative effects of isolation and bringing people together is how we support this charitable project.
Canadian North is proud to be listed among the many generous corporations who make this possible and look forward to continued involvement in the North of 60 project.
