Last week, Canadian North was proud to bring our team, our spirit, and our signature hot cookies to Nunavut Day celebrations in Iqaluit and beyond.
Through collaboration with various partners, Canadian North employees joined the festivities in Iqaluit and Cambridge Bay, handing out our signature hot cookies, hosting a Polaroid photo booth to capture the day’s smiles, and by presenting a travel certificate to lucky prize winners in each location.
While many of the celebrations took place in Nunavut, we also wanted to ensure that those away from home for medical travel could also share in the occasion. Canadian North team members, including Vice President, Cargo & Airport Services, Matieu Plamondon and Senior Director, Information Technology, Anna Lynch, were excited to be on-site at Larga Baffin in Ottawa with hot cookies and a travel certificate, extending the celebration to patients and families.
More than just a day of celebration and sweet treats, Nunavut Day marks the passage of the Nunavut Act on July 9, 1993. with the territory officially established on April 1, 1999, following its separation from the Northwest Territories. It recognizes the Inuit homeland and celebrates a territory with a public government that works to protect and promote Inuit culture, language, and heritage.
Nunavut Day is both a celebration of history and a reflection of a vibrant, living culture and it holds deep meaning for the people who call the territory home. It is a day to honour community, celebrate identity, and recognize the enduring traditions and bright future that make Nunavut such a unique and important part of Canada.
