Students Transform Canada Goose Resource Event Materials into Fabulous, Functional Fashion

Nunavut Arctic College students have taken the gift of the materials distributed at one of our free fabric giveaways and paid it forward.

The giveaways are part of the Canada Goose Resource Centre program, which donates excess fabric, buttons, zippers, lining and trims to remote northern communities. Canadian North is proud to partner with Canada Goose on this initiative, flying the material in at no charge and distributing it to Inuit sewers in these communities.

As we recently shared, this partnership led to giving away 5,500 kg of Arctic Tech fabric and other materials at an event in Iqaluit on November 12.

Among the 500 community members who left with arms full were five students from the Fur Design & Production program at Nunavut Arctic College. The program incorporates both Inuit and Western knowledge to prepare skins, design and sew garments. The students develop the skills and confidence to be successful in the industry, creating parkas that are both beautiful and essential for those living in northern communities.

Since the event, the students handcrafted parkas, adding to the Canada Goose donation with fur donated by local store Arctic Survival and other contributions from the college, its dean Lizzie Aliqatutuq and Northmart.

Congratulations to these talented students, who graduate in April 2025: Annika Akulujuk, Allison Kilabuk, Emily Kilabuk, Sheena Kilabuk and Roseanne Ootoova. And our thanks again to Canada Goose!
