In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Canadian North was proud to support two CFL events that brought together Indigenous youth, families and communities through sport, culture, and connection.
Working alongside Exchange Income Corporation (EIC) family of companies, partner organizations, and CFL teams, Canadian North welcomed more than 600 Indigenous youth, community members, and volunteers to special events in Edmonton and Ottawa. For around 450 participants, the experience included travelling south from northern communities, some for the very first time, and creating new memories with others at CFL games in Edmonton and Ottawa.
At the Edmonton Elks’ Indigenous Celebration Night, more than 300 Indigenous youth and volunteers took part in an evening that featured cultural performances, community programming, and opportunities to connect through football. The event also built on a partnership that earlier this year saw Elks players visit Yellowknife to host football camps for local youth.
A week later, Canadian North joined the Ottawa REDBLACKS Truth and Reconciliation Game, where more than 300 attendees from 13 Nunavut communities gathered at TD Place to experience the game. The evening featured a trilingual national anthem, an on-field activity for participants, and the opportunity for fans to see and take photos with the Grey Cup.
At Canadian North, connecting people and communities across the North is at the heart of everything we do. Supporting initiatives like these reflects our commitment to creating opportunities for youth, celebrating Indigenous cultures and strengthening connections between the communities we serve.
As communities across the country marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, these events demonstrated the power of shared experiences to bring people together and inspire the next generation.
