Canadian North Supporting the United WayAnd Communities in Need

May 26, 2023

Friday, May 26, Kanata, ON – As some families are now returning home in the aftermath of the devastating wildfires in Alberta and the Northwest Territories, Canadian North is hoping to lend a hand where it can. To help support the recovery, Canadian North is donating $5,000 to the United Way Emergency Community Support.

“We are committed to making life better in our communities, and this community is experiencing a terrible tragedy” says Shelly De Caria, Associate Vice President, Sales and Community Investment “Our hearts go out to our friends, families and colleagues in Alberta and Northwest Territory communities deal with these out-of-control fires. We encourage other private businesses to step up and support the United Way and its efforts.”

Fast moving and dangerous fires threatening the region, forced the evacuation of the Kátł’odeeche First Nation and the Town of Hay River in NWT. As a result, the regional airport has been closed since May 12th and all flights in and out were cancelled and will only be re-opening today May 26, 2023.

To support our impacted customers and their families, Canadian North is offering discounted fares to passengers so that they may return home this week. They will be able to fly from Yellowknife to Hay River for as low $99+ tax using the promo code YHY23 from flights from now until June 1, 2023. (Subject to the Hay River Airport being open and fully operational).

As many residents evacuated their homes with their pets without a kennel and kennels are in short supply, passengers will be permitted to travel with their pet in the cabin free of charge rather than reserving AVIH space. This service will be based on space available and will be supported at the airport.

Customers who require alternative flight options are encouraged to review flight availability online prior to calling the customer contact centre for reservations, ticket information, ticket changes, schedules, and other reservation inquiries.

Stay safe everyone!
