July 4, 2023 – Iqaluit, NU – Canadian North Airlines issued a request for proposal (RFP) to Inuit and Indigenous designers today. The RFP calls for proposals to update, connect culturally and improve the functionality of its uniforms. Uniforms will be updated to better reflect Canadian North’s culture and place in the communities it serves.
The successful design will cover all customer-facing uniforms. “Our vision is to make a connection, paying homage to Inuit and Indigenous cultural histories, while reflecting modern-day style and realities around reconciliation and empowerment”, said Shelly De Caria, Interim Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Distribution. “Cultural elements, like the Inukshuk, have always been important to the Canadian North brand. We are a northern airline first. Our uniforms must reflect who we are and where we fly.”
Additionally, Canadian North is calling for indigenous suppliers to produce unique accessories; name tags, ties, scarves, and shawls, proudly reflecting and connecting to Canadian North’s Inuit roots.
“This is an exciting project for me as an Inuk executive with our airline. I am looking forward to receiving proposals from all the talented designers and craftspeople I know are in the communities we serve,” said De Caria.
Contract(s) will be awarded to the proposal(s) best meeting the project, safety, and design requirements. For those interested in learning more please click here to view the full Request for Proposal.
