Ottawa, ON — May 20, 2026 – Canadian North is proud to announce the opening of its new cargo facility in Ottawa, Ontario, specifically designed to facilitate the transit of critical shipments through the airline’s extensive northern network.
As an essential service provider to remote and northern communities, Canadian North plays a critical role in delivering groceries, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, mail and other important cargo across Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. The airline’s new purpose-built cargo facility represents a significant investment in expanding capacity to meet the evolving needs of the communities Canadian North serves—both now and into the future
“At Canadian North, we understand the responsibility we have to deliver for the people that count on us,” said Shelly De Caria, President and CEO of Canadian North. “This new facility equips our teams with the tools, space and capacity they need to ensure critical cargo moves safely and reliably across our network. It will enhance the quality of life for northern residents, support opportunities for our customers, and allow us to grow alongside the communities we serve.”
Canadian North would like to thank the Government of Canada and Transport Canada for their vital contribution to the cargo facility expansion project through the National Trade Corridors Fund. The $11 million federal contribution, matching Canadian North’s own investment in the project, ultimately drove positive economic outcomes through the creation and sustainment of high-quality jobs for Canadians while also reinforcing the aviation sector’s role as a cornerstone of national connectivity.
By moving the previous pickup and drop-off operations in Ottawa into a single location, the modernized facility consolidates Canadian North’s cargo services to ensure improved efficiency, facilitate the implementation of strengthened shipment-tracking capabilities, and provide the best possible support for the movement of life’s necessities across the North.
Canadian North’s Ottawa cargo operation will officially begin accepting outbound cargo shipments at the new location on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. During the transition period, inbound freight pickups will continue at the previous 140 Thad Johnson Private facility until Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
