Canadian North Adjusting Flights to Better Serve Northern Communities

June 1, 2023

June 1, 2023, Yellowknife NWT – Canadian North is adjusting its schedule to align valuable resources to provide better service. The adjustment comes after weeks of consultation with northern communities across the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Nunavik.

For 77-years, Canadian North has essential air service for those living in the Arctic, providing reliable air service, maintaining its commitment to make life better in the communities it serves.

June 30, 2023 will see the end of Canadian North’s service from Calgary to Yellowknife to refocus valuable resources, including crew, aircraft and infrastructure, to regions with a greater need.

“Changing market conditions resulted in demand for this new route not materializing. We are keen to ensure our amazing Canadian North crews and aircraft will continue to serve all our existing communities,” says Shelly De Caria, Associate Vice President, Sales, and Community Investments. “We are committed to make life better in the communities we serve. While this single route is ending, we see good demand for our one-of-a-kind Arctic Capital Express, taking our passengers where they need to be, on time and on budget.”

As announced, the Arctic Capital Express will take-off Thursday, June 8th, and will provide convenient same-day travel between Edmonton, Yellowknife, Iqaluit, and Ottawa, each way, every Thursday.

Canadian North passengers will be able to reach their destination in a single day on the Arctic Capital Express, reducing the need for overnight stops, all while enjoying our industry leading inflight hospitality, with complimentary meal and beverage service.

“We’re focused on improving northern air service and supporting our northern passengers, entrepreneurs and businesses,” says Shelly De Caria, “and as a 100-percent Inuit owned airline, we are dedicated to supporting Inuit and Indigenous businesses as they pursue economic self-reliance and growth.”
